What Is an SEO Audit?
GAP Team · Jul 16, 2026 · 6 min read
An SEO audit is a structured inspection of a website's ability to rank in search — covering technical health, content quality, on-page optimization, and off-site authority.
The three layers
- Technical — crawlability, indexing, speed, structured data.
- On-page — titles, headings, content depth, internal links.
- Off-page — backlinks, brand mentions, authority signals.
What a good audit produces
Not just a list of issues — a prioritized list with severity, traffic-at-risk, effort, and an owner. Anything less becomes shelf-ware.
When to audit
Quarterly at minimum. Always after a redesign, migration, or major traffic drop.
