Why Is My Website Not Ranking on Google?

GAP Team · Jul 16, 2026 · 8 min read

Twelve reasons your site isn't showing up — ordered by how often we see them in real GAP scans.

1. It's not indexed

Search site:yourdomain.com in Google. If nothing appears, indexing is the blocker. Check robots.txt, meta robots, and Search Console.

2. The site is too new

Sandboxing is real. Give it three to six months of consistent content and links.

3. Search intent mismatch

You wrote a product page for an informational query. Match the intent Google is already rewarding.

4. Thin content

200 words about a competitive topic won't beat 2,000. Depth wins.

5. Slow site

6. No backlinks

Off-site authority still matters. Zero referring domains = no ranking on competitive terms.

7. Cannibalization

Multiple pages targeting the same keyword split authority. Consolidate.

8. Broken canonicals

9. JS-rendering issues

Bots see a blank page. Server-render critical templates.

10. Manual action

Check Security & Manual Actions in Search Console.

11. Google update

Cross-check your drop date against known core updates.

12. Better competitors

Sometimes the honest answer is: they're just doing more. Run a competitor analysis.
